David Frey Community Service Award for Peace and Justice To Be Presented to WFTE-FM, Community Radio Collective, Inc., on Monday, April 23, 2012
The Peace and Justice Center (Wilkes-Barre, PA) is pleased to announce Community Radio Collective, Inc. (WFTE-FM) of Scranton, PA, as the recipient of the 2012 David Frey Community Service Award. The Peace Center will present the award at the Center's annual award event on Monday, April 23, 2012.
The David Frey Community Service Award, presented to "an individual, or group, whose actions have contributed, either by direct support of the mission of The Peace and Justice Center or by making a contribution to the wider community and to the civic or corporate cause of peace and justice."
"WFTE-FM's ability to provide community oriented media services is crucial to the health and well-being of any region," noted Rod Gereda, for the Peace and Justice Center. WFTE's mission is dedicated to the progressive values of social justice, economic justice, human rights, multiculturalism, environmentalism, freedom of expression, and democracy.
WFTE originates features on fracking as well as other shows that include economic news programming, political analysis, local and world politics, war and peace issues, bi-lingual and intellectual programs, regional clergy discussions, and the latest on the Occupy movement. The listeners also enjoy programs on surviving your boss on the job, and other programs reflecting the interests of the G.L.B.T. community, reading of literature, and many different styles of music including regional indie, jazz, folk, Celtic, world music, Afro-Cuban, reggae, hip-hop, and Spanish language favorites.

You're invited to come to an informational meeting about the Transition Towns movement and how it might apply to the Wilkes-Barre area.
Michele Sands, from SEEDS (Wayne County sustainability group) and Jane Bollinger, from Transition Honesdale, will explain how they became involved in planning in their region of northeastern PA. They also will share a powerpoint presentation on some British examples.

The US branch of this international movement is Transition US, a nonprofit organization that provides inspiration, encouragement, support, networking, and training for Transition Initiatives across the United States. We are working in close partnership with the Transition Network , a UK based organization that supports the international Transition Movement as a whole.
The Transition Movement is a vibrant, grassroots movement that seeks to build community resilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis. It represents one of the most promising ways of engaging people in strengthening their communities against the effects of these challenges, resulting in a life that is more abundant, fulfilling, equitable and socially connected.

A few years back we took our daughter Cecelia to Dr. Larry Rosen, a leading Integrative Pediatrician in Jersey. Wanting a doctor to discuss our concerns who was trained in homeopathic remedies as well as conventional ones, we chose this wonderful physician. From the Whole Child Center: Dr. Rosen is a board-certified general pediatrician committed to family-centered, holistic child health care. He practices primary care at the Whole Child Center in Oradell, NJ and consults at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, serving as Medical Advisor to the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology.
Dr. Rosen is a nationally recognized expert in Pediatric Integrative Medicine, a founding member and chair-elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Complementary and Integrative Medicine. He is appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at UMDNJ/New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Rosen is a graduate of New York Medical College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he completed his residency and chief residency in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
Dr. Rosen serves on many integrative health advisory boards, including the Teleosis Institute, IntegrativePractitioner.com and Integrative Healthcare Symposium, Integrative Touch for Kids, PedCAM, and MarbleJam Kids. He is a contributing editor and columnist for Kiwi Magazine, as well as a contributing author/editor for several books, including “Integrative Pediatrics” (Oxford University Press 2009), “Green Baby" (DK 2008), and "Pediatric Clinics of North America: Complementary and Alternative Medicine" (Elsevier 2007).

HERE IS THE MISSION STATEMENT ON THE GAS STOCK CONCERT - FESTIVAL RALLY EVENT.
Concerned Citizens of NEPA are producing an environmental rally that will raise awareness on the Marcellus Shale situation occurring in Northeast Pennsylvania. A Gas Stock Rally Festival- Rally–Concert will take place on Saturday Aug 21, 2010 at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds located State Route 118 in Lehman, Pennsylvania from Noon to 7:00 PM
The GAS STOCK Festival- Rally- Concert event will feature a number of superb storytellers on environmental and family-oriented entertainers, Environmental vendors and exhibits, environmental education displays. There will also be a vigil with a song circle where audience participation is the focus.
Gas Stock Festival – Rally- Concert is the inspiration of Northeast Pennsylvania Citizens in Action Group in partnership with members of local environmental groups and activists who make up part of the concerned citizens in NEPA. It is their desire to keep air, water and rivers clean that are now at risk of being contaminated by the Marcellus Shale Drilling.
We are engaging everyone that has been at the helm of leading the charge in educating residents and investigating the problems associated with the drilling and it’s after effects. It is the group’s intent to help raise awareness and create unified voice to this very serious Marcellus Shale and Fracking situation.
Northeastern Pennsylvania has recently become the epicenter and a symbol of American Drilling. This grassroots action will serve as one of Premier Rally Events on the health of our nation’s environmental challenges. It will also be the measuring stick that Local, State and Federal Representatives will look at to see how serious the environmental movement in NEPA is on the Marcellus Shale issue. The drilling companies and special interest groups will also look at this event to see if there is strong opposition to their activities in Pennsylvania.
The event is not designed to raise revenue, but to gain support and ignite educational awareness that will help our area work toward environmental and social justice. It is through a small group of dedicated Citizens In Action members that money has been put up front to let the people of NEPA show their solidarity and strength as one united group. All money raised via the small charge for Vendor Space or any monies from sponsor involvement will go to offset the cost of the event. We have estimated the cost of this project to be $10.000. Those costs include venue rental, liability insurance, Security, First Aid, Sound Engineers, Advertising, Tee-shirts and other event needs. We will make all attempts to have items underwritten by sponsors or essential needs or services donated In kind.
This event will help our community to understand the environmental facts that are part of this topical drilling situation. We hope that this effort will become recognized for its leadership in helping to raise awareness and help develop landmark environmental laws on a state and federal level.
